'Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn' - a guided exercise to cure end-of-summer blues and get you feeling ready for autumn

Hello lovely people,

After one last glorious burst of sunshine here in London on Friday, it feels like summer is finally exhaling its last breath. A few years ago, that realisation would have sent me spiralling.

For most of my adult life, I dreaded the end of summer. I’d feel a wave of sadness as I packed away my sandals and pulled out my slippers, knowing the cold, dark, wet months were on their way. It always felt like such a long stretch of grey ahead.

These days? I feel completely different. I still adore the summer months — the light, the warmth, the freedom — but now I also love closing that chapter. I find myself saying goodbye to summer with a grateful heart and genuinely looking forward to the slower, cosier rhythm of autumn.

So, what changed?

One simple ritual: Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn.

I came up with it around six years ago when I decided I was done with that familiar end-of-summer slump. I wanted to find joy in autumn and winter — to design my life with the seasons instead of against them.

This little reflection has completely transformed how I experience the darker months. Autumn and winter have become my seasons of stillness, creativity, and comfort — candlelight, books, slow dinners, and early nights. I no longer feel resistance when the temperature drops. Instead, I welcome it.

So this week, as I swap sundresses for jumpers, I’ll be doing my Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn exercise — and I’d love for you to do it too.

You can jot your answers down in a notebook, type them in your phone, or simply reflect as you walk, cook, or relax in the bath.

It’s a gentle, powerful way to reset your energy, honour the season that’s passed, and step into the new one with intention and gratitude.

Let’s do it together 💛
